If you're following along, you'll see that I recently posted the photos from our incredible time at Winter Break Family Camp. Well, there I am up in the beautiful GA mountains, which I of course see as an incredible background for family photo sessions. Here are the fun images we created of the two families who chose to capture their So You moments with me!
Kerry, Mike, Asher, and Miles: Hollywood Beach Family Photo Session
I worked with this mama for a few years and took her family photos at the beach 2 years ago when they first moved to Florida from Minnesota. She proudly displayed the photos in her office, and it was finally time for an update for this year’s holiday session! We met at the beach again, and lucked out with an absolutely gorgeous evening with one of the softest watercolor sunsets I’ve seen in a while. And I absolutely LOVE that this family took my gentle guidance for play and genuinely interacted and enjoyed each other at their session. It shows, and these images are SO YOU!

There are few things better than getting to freeze time for a family as you get to watch their kids grow before your eyes! I first got to photograph this family when mom was pregnant with baby #2, again when he was a newborn, and now for his first birthday! We’d had this session on the calendar for a while because both sets of grandparents would be around to celebrate, so when the weather that morning didn’t cooperate, we just moved the session indoors to their lovely home. We started off with a few outdoor portraits in a break from the rain, and then spent some time in the boys’ rooms. There’s just something genuine and fun about capturing a family in the environment where they’re the most comfortable. They really got to play together, and I got to capture it all! And what in the moment may feel a little chaotic, in the images I see when I get home, I just fall in love with how real they are!

This is another one of my 4th year families, and I’m just so blown away at how much they’ve grown, which really makes me appreciate that I froze those moments in time when they were smaller. I also appreciated freezing them in their present state, knowing they’re going to keep growing! And this was my favorite photo shoot with this family to date. It went really well! We picked a cool location for their session in Downtown Ft Lauderdale, and since we were comfortable with each other, they were able to relax and enjoy each other, and have fun with me, which allowed me to capture many So You moments for them!

As my business grows, so do the families I photograph! This year I’m coming up on 4 years for some families, like this one! And it’s really hit me how fast time has passed and these kids have grown, which makes me appreciate what I do that much more. I’m freezing moments in time, and as I’ve starting shooting more lifestyle photography, the moments are more real and less posed. When mom and dad look back on these images, I don’t just want them to remember what they all looked like. I want to have captured that intangible dynamic that makes their family uniquely beautiful. I’ve captured the looks, the snuggles, the hugs, the kisses, the giggles. To mom and dad: when you look at these images, I want you to remember the sound of their laughter, the feel of their small hands in yours, and the weight of their head on your shoulder. I can’t wait to capture more So You images of you and your kiddos as they grow!
