This extended family of siblings, their spouses, and kids got together during the spring, as many families do, and wanted to capture their time together. They’re planning to gift the images to their parents. We met at the park and relaxed in the shade of a big tree and captured the love and bonds of this group of brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins!

I love how photography has re-connected me with some friends of the past. Since our generation didn’t grow up with mobile phones and social media, many of us grew apart as we went our separate ways. But that separation just means that social media has re-connected us, as is the case with this friend who’s seen my work on Facebook, and thus had the brilliant idea to schedule a family photo session when they were visiting warm and sunny Florida from New York this spring. It was great to see her and meet her family, and capture their love for each other and the fun they have together!

Siblings and Cousins Photo Session at Wynwood Walls
I had the pleasure of photographing some of these siblings for this incredible Harry Potter themed session, so when Jenna messaged me to schedule a session since another sibling would be visiting from out of town, I knew the hip art of the Wynwood Walls area would be the perfect location for this cool bunch. I suggested they dress ‘street’, and they pulled off the look perfectly, both in their dress and in their interactions during our session! With such a large group, by the time we all found parking in the busy area and got together, it had started getting dark out, which means we got to finish our session with some fun night portraits, always a favorite of mine!

Lori, Jake, Eli, and Lily
This mom and I have a bajillion mutual friends on social media and have talked on and off about scheduling a photo session for the last year or so. A few weeks ago, after seeing me photograph yet another mutual friend, she finally decided she was ready to schedule her family’s session. Lori also confessed that the reason she had hesitated is because she was concerned her chaotic family wouldn’t do well with a portrait session and thus it wouldn’t be worth their while. I said, great! Let’s do it! I love chaos, bring it on! We spent a good deal of time chatting and strategizing beforehand, and on the day of, this mom took the lead with regards to just letting go and having fun with her family, and IT WAS MAGICAL!!!
Lifestyle photography is really organized chaos. It’s not just running wild, because that would have everyone all over the frame and would not make for pleasing composition. It’s about connecting, creating moments, and letting those moments of connection evolve. When that happens, I just sit back and capture So You!
